I have tried to do some extra drawing practice on my own recently, including some sketched out comics. They're mostly newspaper-style, I suppose, being about four panels in length each. I also have been brainstorming a lot of ideas for stories and settings I could use. In fact, just now, I stopped writing and brain-storm'd a bunch of stuff. Possibly look forward to the story of Marsita the Flower exploring issues of gender roles; or the person who flies around his house and the valley his town is located in; or the return of an old average young dude named Earl, who I used to draw lots of strips of when I was younger. Then I will hopefully also get to use some of the pens and ink I bought, and maybe get some sort of finished (small) comic finished.
If anyone knows any good sources for information on Neil Gaiman...I'm open for some direction. I have a mini-presentation I have to do for a class here at MCAD, and I have had a little trouble so far in finding sources, or thinking of what exactly about Neil Gaiman I'm going to research. It seems that a lot of sources just talk about his stories and books, and not really about any themes or ideas that his work explores, which is more what I'm looking for.
I am still kind of undecided if I want to focus my studies here at MCAD on Comic Art or Animation. I feel like Animation would have potentially greater job opportunities. I'm not sure yet which I like more, having only done some animation. Also, overall, I want to improve my artistic skills in general, so that I feel a little more ready going into whatever I choose to go into.
Hopefully I'll soon be trying some more to step out of this semi-shell I'm often in. Lots of homework. Anxiety. Fatigue. And I'm stubborn. All add up to: ... It's not easy. I guess good things don't come easy, though, of course.
